New frame on it's way Tuesday/Wednesday (from supertwisted) - it's this one:
40133165.jpg

He purcashed it as a doner bike for his new Mmmmbop build so I took the frame off his hands, its brand new/never ridden and comes with a Fox RP23 shock.

So, have been buying some shiny new parts as a lot of the kit from the BFe was not suitable, ie forks etc.

First up some Marzocchi 55 ATA TST2s
img00053201009041914.jpg

Also, in that pic, some 2010 Deity D30 bars in black and white to frame-match.

Some white and red Troy Lee ODIs

img00049201009041913.jpg

A tarty ano red N-17 top cap:
img00050201009041914.jpg

Shimano SLX double specific front mech (needed a top-swing model)
img00051201009041914.jpg

All the rest of the kit from the BFe (XT brakes/shifters/rear mech/Joplin post with SDG Bel Air saddle, FSA Gravity cranks, etc ect)

img00055201009041925.jpg

Have ordered some new hoops too:
Hope Pro II (red) on Stans ZTR Flow rims (in white)

These are being built by Merlin, but are identical to these:
hopehoopsredflowwhite.jpg

THe build is going to be predominantly black and white with some red hints here and there. Having rode one of these, I am very exceited as they are unbelievable fun to ride, based around a 140mm fork is the perfect trail bike for where I live.

Had to get rid of the BFe as TBH I didnt get that whole steel is real feeling and it was too heavy, and very sluggish uphill. Shame as it was a beautiful frame.

Am expecting this to be around the 27-30lb mark
Frame is being posted tomorrow so should have this built up by end of week when I shall get piccies up of finished build.

Bloody hell, you can never settle on a bike! :lol:

Looks like a very nice build though, as always 8)
  • LOL, I do go through them don't I? I have like all my bikes but they have either been overkill, or just didn't feel right, the Marin is still bloody fantastic though... :)

    Full spec is:
16" 2009 Mongoose Teocali Super / Fox RP23 shock with Large Air Can
    FSA semi-Integrated/low stack headset
    2009 Marzocchi 55 ATA TST2
    White Superstar Headset spacers
    Thomson Elite 50mm stem
    NC-17 Top-Cap
    Deity D30 bars (mid rise)
    ODI Troy Lee grips
    Shimano XT Shifters
Shimano XT Servo-Wave brakes (180mm front and rear)
    Shimano SLX Double-Specific front mech
Shimano XT Shadow long cage rear mech
KMC X9 SL gold and Ti chain
    SHimano XT 11-32 cassette
    Crank Brothers Jopiln 3 seatpost
    SDG Bel Air RL saddle
Hope seatclamp (black) and Hope Rear Skewer (Red)
FSA Gravity Quad Meg-Exo chainset (32/22t)
Hope Pro II hubs (20mm front/135mm QR rear) (Red)
    Stans ZTR Flow rims (white)
    Kends innertubes
Kenda Nevegal 2.3 folding (dual compound)
Wellgo B-54 (although may go for some nano-techs

    Extras:
    KCNC red bottle cage bolts
    KCNC red presta valve caps

Yep, hoping it's going to be a corker :)

It's a size 16" which is an inch shorter than I normally ride but checked out the geo and it should be spot on, I am 6' but only have a 32" inside leg.
  • Looking like another great build!!

I'm really liking those wheels, wondering if i can 'acquire' some money to buy some
  • Well Hope hubs are always reliable or rather have been in my experience, I have no idea what to expect from the Stans rims, although everyone seems to rate them highly.

The build from Merlin cost me £315 so not too bad at all really.

It's sold already my friend, sold pretty much straight away.

I try to settle on bikes, but one of the drawbacks of buying bikes/frames blind without trying is that you never know if you're going to like them, which unfortunately for me has been the case ;)

However, on this occasion I have ridden a Teocali, and it was most superb. In fact to say it was massive fun is more apt.

Rides very similar to the GT I-drive system.

I dont want nor need anything with more than 140mm up front. Not exactly challenging terrain where I live and Im a bit of a 'scaredy-cat' when it comes to anything too challenging/out of my safety zone.

I also need for it to be suitable for riding on flat, and uphill, which is sadly where the Sanction eventually failed and so did the BFe for being too damn heavy.

ah, fair enough, how much did it go for if you dont mind me asking? i really want something a bit slacker than my GT thats also good for a bigger back tyre and a chain guide... BFE is pretty high up there, but my budget is also very tight....

just wondering how much a good condition second hand BFe goes for.

I paid £370 for it and another £30 for headset. Totalling £400.

I sold it for £300 with headset (I am a realist with second hand pricing, and don't take the pi55) and it sold pretty much straight away, it had NO marks on it and I was honest with desciption etc.

I would not pay more that £250 for a good/used condition one, but would pay more if (like mine) it was 'as new' with no marks.

Be warned, my build cam in at 37lb.... you may be better off with something else, they are a bugger uphill.
  • Do your bikes get into fights over which one is loved the least

Hmm,MMMBop is cheaper, and lighter, and takes 1.5 steerer... Also the wieght may be a bit of a pain now you mention it, my current build, with one of the lightest 140mm Alu Frames around is pushing 31lb :?

Yes - it would appear that way :)

Especially now I have just spent nigh on a grand on bits for it and the frame etc... :D

dont listen to him, itll be gone in a few months, and replaced by something that "really is the one, the last frame was just too..... (heavy, bouncy, light, hard, long, short, tall, low.....choose one or more)"

remember just before he got the Bfe he decided he was always gonna stick with Ht's becouse they suited him much better.......:wink:

He's only had that rug a month. The old one was too bouncy. He's actually selling it at quite a reasonable price, pretty much never used.

  • You know it's all in good fun though Mr Fromage.
I couldn't agree with you more, building them up is almost as fun as riding them.
You've got the Marin as your "main" bike, and the dale as the commuter. If I could keep chopping and changing, while still having enough bikes to ride, I would do.

    Anyway...........Mojo HD next please :lol::wink:
